Mill Hill NW7ers 6 v 0 Elstree & Borehamwood
Match Report
It was a sunny summers evening when the mighty men of Mill Hill faced up to the only local Shul team they had not been able to beat to date, Borehamwood United. On paper Mill Hill was fielding its strongest squad to date with the strength, depth and versatility that any manager would love to have at their disposal.
The game started cautiously with both teams probing each other out. There were limited chances in the first 20 mins as both teams kept it tight offering little space to the opposition. Then suddenly a chink in the armour of the Borehamwood defence, after some good work Danny Myers on the wing, a slightly under hit back pass was seized upon by Wayne Davidson who side stepped his marker fired a fierce shot past the Borehamwood keeper, 1-0, and a deserved lead as Mill Hill were beginning to dominate the game.
A slender lead at the half way stage but with limited chances on offer Mill Hill felt confident the lead could be retained and built upon.
The second half proved a less even affair. The lads NW7 with fresh legs on the bench and a desire to drive forward through the likes of Ben Lewis and Andy Bloom, dominated the moment the second half started. A wonderful through ball Danny Myers released Stef Simons who coolly rounded the keeper and slotted home to make it 2-0 and give us some breathing space. Better was to follow as Dan Zinkin picked up the ball on the edge of the box a failed corner clearance and curled a beautiful right foot shot into the top corner, 3-0 game safe and opposite demoralised. With the opposition dispirited and tiring, 3 more goals followed courtesy of Stef, Andy Bloom and Wayne leaving a final score of 6-0 (not to mention a missed penalty – no names mentioned – let’s call him Mr Z). A job well done.
Easy to give credit to the attackers after a 6 goal haul and indeed some great displays Ben Lewis, Dan Zinkin and Stef Simons, but this victory was built a solid foundation the opposition could barely create a shot on goal such was the dominance of Mill Hill’s defence. Outstanding displays David Peters and Anthony Jaffe at the back set the tone and gave the team confidence to push forward.
Mill Hill proving once again that when we turn out in strength and depth there are no other (over 30s) Shul teams that can match us.
